How Long Does It Take to Build a Website? Our One-Week Process
Short answer: a typical business website takes about one week to build once the content is ready. A larger business site with more pages usually takes one to two weeks, and online shops, booking sites and custom systems take longer, depending on scope. The biggest cause of delay is rarely the build. It’s waiting for content, feedback and access to your domain.
Below is how a one-week website project actually runs with us (see our page on web design in Nairobi for what’s included), day by day, what we need from you to keep it on schedule, and what makes some projects take longer.
Typical website timelines in Kenya
| Type of website | Typical build time once content is ready | Our starting price |
|---|---|---|
| Starter business website (1–3 pages) | About one week | From KES 65,000 (USD 600) |
| Growth business website (5–7 pages, blog, lead forms) | About one to two weeks | From KES 95,000 (USD 900) |
| Online shop with M-Pesa | Longer, by scope (products, payments, delivery rules) | From KES 150,000 (USD 1,400) |
| Booking, membership or portal site | Longer, by scope | Quoted per project |
| Custom web application or business system | Planned in phases | Quoted per project |
The clock starts once the 60% deposit is paid and we have your content. Every project gets a timeline in its fixed written quote, so you know the launch date before we start. For prices in more detail, see our website cost guide for Kenya or our pricing page.
Before the week starts: discovery call and fixed quote
Every project starts with a discovery call. We talk through your business, the pages and features you need, and your deadline. You then get a fixed written quote with the price, what’s included, the timeline and any yearly costs. It won’t change once you accept it.
When you accept, you pay a 60% deposit (M-Pesa or bank transfer in Kenya, PayPal or Wise in US dollars) and send the content. That’s when the build week begins.
Our one-week website process, day by day
This is how a typical starter or small business website runs. Larger projects follow the same stages over a longer schedule. In practice, steps often overlap or happen on the same day, so many sites launch sooner than a week.
Day 1: Kick-off and structure
We confirm the page list, the sitemap and the main call to action on each page (usually a call, a WhatsApp message or a quote request). We set up the hosting, the domain in your name and a private preview site.
Day 2: Homepage design
We design the homepage, mobile first, using your logo, colours and photos. You get a preview link to review on your own phone.
Day 3: Your feedback and inner pages
You send feedback on the homepage. We apply it and design the inner pages (about, services, contact) in the same style.
Day 4: Build and features
We build the full site: contact forms, the WhatsApp button, maps, and any features in your scope. Content goes onto every page.
Day 5: SEO, speed and testing
We set up page titles and descriptions, headings, the sitemap and the SSL certificate. We compress images, test speed on mobile data, and check every form and link on real phones.
Days 6–7: Final review and launch
You review the finished site on the preview link and send your last round of changes. Once you approve, we go live, you pay the balance, and we run handover training so your team can edit the site themselves.

What we need from you (and when)
Most delays come from missing content, not from the build. To launch in a week, have these ready before day 1:
- Your logo and brand colours, if you have them.
- Text for each page, or a short brief if you’d like help writing it.
- Photos of your team, premises, products or work.
- Access to your domain, if you already own one, or the name you want registered.
- One decision-maker who can give feedback within a day.
If you don’t have content yet, tell us on the discovery call. We’ll plan the timeline around it.
What makes a website take longer
- Content arriving late, or several people giving conflicting feedback.
- More pages: a 30-page site with a page for every service and town takes longer than five pages.
- Online shops: loading products, setting up M-Pesa and card payments, and testing real transactions all take time. See how much an e-commerce website costs in Kenya.
- Custom features and integrations, such as bookings, customer logins, bulk SMS or eTIMS.
- Moving an existing site, where pages, links and rankings need to be carried across carefully. See website redesign.
Can a website be built faster than a week?
Sometimes, for a very small site with all the content ready. But rushing usually means skipping things that matter later: mobile testing, SEO set-up, speed checks and training. We’d rather launch a site that works in a week than one that needs fixing in a month.
Is one week enough for a good website?
Yes, for a business website with clear content and a focused scope. The one-week timeline works because the discovery call settles the scope before we start, we build on a proven, fast WordPress set-up, and one team handles design, development and SEO. With 14+ years of experience and 1,200+ projects since 2012, we know where the time goes.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to build a website?
A typical business website takes about one week once the content is ready, and many launch sooner because steps often overlap. A larger business site usually takes one to two weeks, and online shops, booking sites and systems take longer, depending on scope.
When does the one-week timeline start?
Once you accept the fixed written quote, pay the 60% deposit and send your content. We confirm the launch date in your quote.
What slows a website project down?
Most delays come from missing content, slow feedback or waiting for access to the domain. Larger scopes, shops and custom features also take longer.
How long does an online shop take to build?
Longer than a standard business website. Most of the time goes into loading products, setting up payments such as M-Pesa and testing real transactions. We confirm the timeline in your quote.
Can I see the website before it goes live?
Yes. You review everything on a private preview link and we launch once you approve.
What happens after launch?
You pay the balance at launch and we run handover training so your team can edit the site. An optional care plan, from KES 60,000 a year, keeps it updated and secure.
