How Much Does a Website Cost in Kenya? 2026 Price Guide in KES and USD

Short answer: most business websites we build in Kenya start from KES 65,000, and a typical build takes about one week. A simple company site sits near that starting price. Online shops with M-Pesa, booking systems and custom features cost more, because they take more design, development and testing. On top of the build, budget for yearly costs: your domain, hosting (ours from KES 10,000 a year) and, ideally, a care plan (ours from KES 60,000 a year, or USD 600, billed annually).

Below you’ll find our price bands by type of website in both KES and USD, what moves a quote up or down, and the running costs that cheap quotes tend to leave out. If you’re in Nairobi and want to see how we work, start with our page on web design in Nairobi, or go straight to our pricing page.

These are the bands we quote within. Every project still gets a fixed written quote after a discovery call, because two “five-page websites” can be very different jobs.

A few notes on the table:

  • “From KES 65,000” is the real floor, not a teaser. It covers a professionally designed, mobile-first site that you own, with SSL and the basic SEO set-up done properly.
  • USD prices are for clients paying in dollars, mostly international clients. See international clients for how we work across time zones.
  • Content isn’t free. If you need us to write copy, source photos or upload hundreds of products, that’s added to the quote.

COST FACTORS

What changes the price of a website

Number and type of pages

A five-page company site is a different job from a 30-page site with a page for every service and town you serve. Each extra page needs layout, content, internal links and SEO settings. Template-style pages (for example, ten location pages with the same layout) cost less per page than pages designed one by one.

Custom design or adapted theme

A design made for your brand takes longer than adjusting a theme demo. Both can look professional. The difference is how closely the site fits your brand, your customers and your content, and how easy it is to grow later.

Features and integrations

This is usually the biggest price driver. Common examples in Kenya:
  • M-Pesa payments. An M-Pesa checkout that confirms orders automatically (STK Push, Paybill or Till) takes set-up and testing. We integrate M-Pesa directly or through gateways such as iPay and PesaPal, plus PayPal and cards for overseas customers. See WooCommerce shops with M-Pesa.
  • Bookings and deposits for hotels, clinics, salons and tour operators.
  • Bulk SMS, WhatsApp Business API or KRA eTIMS connections, where your website talks to other systems.
  • Customer logins, portals and dashboards, which move a project from “website” towards “web application”.

Online shop size

A shop with 20 products and one delivery fee is quick to set up. A shop with 2,000 products, size and colour variations, stock syncing and county-by-county delivery rates is a much bigger job. For more on shops, see our e-commerce website design page. For shop prices in detail, see how much an e-commerce website costs in Kenya.

Content, photos and copywriting

Many quotes assume you’ll supply all text and images. If you won’t have time, ask for copywriting and product uploads to be priced separately so you can compare like with like.

SEO and speed

Clean page structure, proper titles and descriptions, fast loading on mobile data and a correct sitemap cost a little more upfront. They are also what lets a site actually bring in enquiries from Google rather than just existing.

Timeline

A typical build takes about one week once we have your content. Bigger scopes take longer. A rush job on a large scope may need more people on it at once, which can affect the price.

RUNNING COSTS

Ongoing costs after your website is built

The build is a one-off. These are the yearly costs to plan for:
Ongoing costWhat it coversTypical cost
Domain name (.co.ke or .com)Your web address, renewed every year, registered in your nameQuoted at proposal
HostingServer space, SSL certificate (included with our hosting), email set-upFrom KES 10,000 a year, depending on site size and traffic; backups are a paid add-on. See web hosting in Kenya
Care plan (maintenance)Updates, security monitoring, performance checks and help when something breaksFrom KES 60,000 a year (USD 600), billed annually. See WordPress maintenance and care plans and what a care plan should include
MarketingSEO, Google Ads, social media, Google Business Profile managementQuoted per scope
Software subscriptionsFor example a CRM. Butterfly CRM starts from USD 25 a monthFrom USD 25/month (one-off licence quoted)
Malware removal, custom plugin work and speed optimisation are separate services, quoted when you need them.

CHECKLIST

Cheap website vs professional website: what you actually lose

A KES 15,000 website can look fine on launch day. The problems tend to show up later:

  • You don’t own it. The domain or hosting is registered in the developer’s name, and moving away becomes difficult.
  • No updates or backups. WordPress, themes and plugins need regular updates. Skipping them is the most common way small-business sites get hacked.
  • Slow on phones. Most Kenyan visitors browse on mobile data. Heavy sliders and unoptimised images cost you enquiries.
  • Manual M-Pesa. Customers pay to a number and you check statements by hand, instead of the order confirming itself.
  • Invisible on Google. Missing titles, no structure and no local SEO basics mean the site rarely shows up when people search.

The cheapest quote often becomes the most expensive website once you add the cost of fixing or rebuilding it. If you already have a site that isn’t working, a website redesign may cost less than starting from zero.

NEXT STEPS

How to get an accurate website quote

You’ll get a faster and more accurate quote if you prepare a few things:
  1. Your goal. More calls, online sales, bookings, or a professional presence for tenders and partners?
  2. Pages you need. A rough list is enough: home, about, services, contact, blog.
  3. Features. M-Pesa, bookings, logins, SMS or WhatsApp, eTIMS.
  4. Content. Will you supply text and photos, or do you need help?
  5. Examples. Two or three websites you like, and what you like about them.
  6. Budget band and deadline. This helps us suggest the right scope rather than overselling.
We usually meet virtually first. If you’re outside Nairobi and have an active contract with us, there’s no travel fee when a visit is needed. Related: our website and payments glossary explains the terms used here.
