Case Study: A Website for an International Client Paid in USD
Short answer: we built the website for Quench Marketplace, a hospitality platform based in Houston, Texas. The site presents the Quench app to two audiences, hospitality professionals and patrons, and explains its leaderboard, posts, tipping, geolocation and booking features. We worked remotely from Nairobi and were paid in US dollars.
Quench Marketplace connects bartenders, servers, chefs and other hospitality professionals with the patrons they serve. Its idea is to shift the focus from venues to the people who create great experiences. This case study describes what the website does and how the project ran. See our international clients page for how we work with clients abroad.

The brief
A marketplace has two sides, and both need to understand quickly why the product matters to them. The website had to explain what Quench is, show its main features clearly and speak to service professionals and patrons without confusing either.
What we built
A clear promise up front
The homepage opens with the core message: Quench connects service pros and patrons for better nights and bigger opportunities. A “Why Quench works” section then walks through creating a profile, getting rated and reviewed, earning tips, discovering opportunities and growing a network.
Features explained for both audiences
Each key feature, the leaderboard, post and showcase, tips, geolocation and booking, has its own section with a message for service professionals and a separate message for patrons. A bartender reads how the leaderboard helps them stand out. A patron reads how it helps them find top-rated talent nearby.
Social proof
Testimonials from bartenders, patrons and guests sit alongside the app’s rating to build trust with new visitors.
Contact and location
The site shows the company’s Houston address, phone and email for partners, venues and users who want to get in touch.
How we worked across time zones
Houston is eight to nine hours behind Nairobi, depending on the season. Our usual approach for US clients combines overlap calls with async work: feedback sent at the end of the US day can be applied and ready on a preview link by the next US morning. How payment in USD worked
The project was quoted in US dollars with a fixed written quote. Like all our projects, it ran on a 60% deposit with the balance at launch. International clients pay by PayPal, Wise or bank transfer. The client owns the site, and handover training was included. See hiring a web developer in Kenya from abroad.
What other international clients can take from this
- Distance isn’t a barrier when communication is planned.
- Two-sided products need two clear messages.
- A fixed quote in USD keeps budgeting simple.
Working with a Kenyan web team from abroad
Quench Marketplace is based in the US and we built the Quench Marketplace website from Nairobi. For international clients, the questions are usually the same: how will we communicate, how will we pay and what happens after launch?
- Communication: we agree a regular check-in time that suits both time zones and keep everything else in writing so nothing is lost.
- Payment: you get a fixed quote in USD. A 60% deposit starts the work and the balance is due at launch. You can pay by PayPal or Wise.
- Ownership: once paid, the website is yours, including the design, content and files.
- Training: we show your team how to update the site at handover. Training is included.
What it costs to build a website like this
Our websites start from USD 600 for a starter site and USD 900 for a growth site. Larger or custom builds are quoted per project after we understand the scope. The fixed quote never changes for the agreed scope. Timelines are guidelines, and many sites launch earlier than planned.
After launch
Hosting starts from KES 10,000 a year with SSL included, and backups are a paid add-on. If you would rather have updates, security checks and support handled for you, our care plan is USD 600 a year, billed annually. See the live site at Quench Marketplace.
What other businesses can take from this
A clear website matters even more when your customers can’t visit you in person. Lead with what you offer, explain how it works for each type of customer and make contact easy from every page.
We’ve delivered 1,200+ projects since 2012 for clients in Kenya and abroad, and are rated 5.0 on Google. If you run an agency, see our white-label WordPress development.
