Working with a Nairobi Web Team from Abroad: Time Zones and Handover
Short answer: working with a Nairobi team from Europe, the US or the Gulf is straightforward when the basics are agreed early: overlap hours for calls, a regular update rhythm, one point of contact, payments in USD and a documented handover. Nairobi runs on UTC+3 all year, which overlaps well with most of these regions.
Many of our clients have never visited Kenya. Some are Kenyans in the diaspora building something back home, others are businesses and agencies abroad. Here’s how we make distance a non-issue. See our international clients page.
| Region | Typical overlap with Nairobi (EAT, UTC+3) |
|---|---|
| UK and Ireland | Most of the working day (2–3 hours apart) |
| Central Europe | Almost the full working day (1–2 hours apart) |
| Gulf (UAE, Saudi, Qatar) | Full working day (0–1 hour apart) |
| US East Coast | Kenyan afternoon is the US morning |
| US West Coast | Early US morning and Kenyan evening, or async updates |
Time zones: plan the overlap
We agree a regular call slot that suits both sides. For US clients, async working is an advantage: you send feedback at the end of your day, and the changes are ready when you wake up.
Updates: a fixed rhythm
You get progress updates at agreed points, usually with a preview link you can open on any device. No chasing for news.
One point of contact
You deal with one project lead who knows your project, not a rotating cast.
Tools that work across borders
Email, WhatsApp, Slack, Google Meet or Zoom, shared Google Drive folders and a private staging site. We use what you already use.
Payments in USD
We quote in US dollars and accept PayPal, Wise or bank transfer. You pay a 60% deposit to start and the balance at launch, with a fixed written quote that doesn’t change. Read more in hiring a web developer in Kenya from abroad.
Handover: everything in your name
At launch you get admin access, hosting and domain details in your name, documentation and a recorded or live training session. You own the site. If you need ongoing help, our care plan is USD 600 (KES 60,000) a year, billed annually.
For agencies
If you’re an agency abroad, our white-label WordPress development lets you deliver projects under your own brand, priced per project. Read also why agencies abroad work with Kenyan teams.
